Fascia Release for Neck, Shoulders & Chest – Standing Practice!

My excitement to share this video with you is making me go out of order. This post continues the series highlighting my rich YouTube video library. Today, I’m skipping the line of most popular videos to share with you a recent hit: Fascia Release for Neck, Shoulders & Chest.

Fascia Release

“Fascia release” is natural intersection between what I do as a manual and orthopedic physical therapist and my other profession as a yoga and movement teacher.

Quite accidentally, I’ve become known for my work in this area. Yoga Journal asked me to produce their 6 week online course Fascia Release for Yoga (it’s really good, if I may say so myself) and later this year I will be presenting my “Way of the Happy Fascia” weekend at Omega Institute (Sept 13-15th). This video offers a tiny snippet of what those two programs involve.

Where We will massage

This 17 minute video shows you how to self-massage the following muscle and body areas:

  • Upper traps
  • Pecs
  • Deltoids
  • Thoracic spine
  • Sternocleidomastoid
  • and more!
Why Do this practice?

So many of you tell me about the “chronic stress” you carry in your upper traps, well, here’s one way to press the re-set button (not a cure, but a start!).

This practice *could* help with TMJ pain, shoulder and neck pain, postural changes and more. The real deal after fascia release is to intelligently strengthen according to your body’s needs, but in the meanwhile, we all need and deserve some good massage.

As always, this video is for educational purposes, and is NOT a replacement for medical advice. If you have pain anywhere in your body, please see a physical therapist (physiotherapist). For those who have seen a physical therapist before without much to show for it: try a different one and try for more than 3 sessions. Nothing will replace skillful, hands-on, individualized care for your long term health. I offer up this video as generally therapeutic practice. There is no intention that it will supplement or replace actual physical therapy / physiotherapy or other medical advice.

Please let me know if you try the video and I’d love if you share your comments on YouTube!
